When is the cheapest time to move across country?
Mid-week and mid-month, between October and April. Demand is what sets long distance pricing, and demand concentrates on summer weekends and month-ends when leases turn over. Moving on a Tuesday in February rather than the last Saturday in July can save a fifth of the total on an identical shipment.
Is it cheaper to ship furniture or buy new?

A quote that is cheap for full service, given without a survey, is usually an estimate that gets revised upward once your belongings are on the truck. Look the company's USDOT number up on the FMCSA register, and treat a large up-front deposit as the warning it is.
